A bit about Ian:

Member since 2004. Focus is coaching, though he has been seen at parkruns, taken part in the Great North Run, a variety of fell races and duathlons. Grew up in 1960s Ireland, racing bikes on road, track, and grass track. Munster junior road champion 1969, Tour of Ireland 1970. Training camps with Norman Sheil (World pursuit champion 1955,1958), and Shay Elliott (super-domestique to Jacques Anquetil, 3rd in 1962 Vuelta Espana, 2nd in World Road Championships 1962).

I got involved in triathlon through my wife Ellen-Ann and felt I could make a contribution in the coaching area, principally bike. Accredited RunningSchool Technique coach. Currently doing my Level 3 British Triathlon coaching qualification. Head Coach with Durham Triathlon Club. Coaching up to six sessions each week, including run and swim sessions for Durham University Triathlon Club.

My role:

With the team of DTC coaches, providing more high quality coaching for members that matches their needs and challenges them, leading them to personal bests and maybe to international competition, and helping to keep them injury-free. Also fostering the further development of the coaching team.
